Fans frequently strike up a chat about the special affinity between American tennis stars Ben Shelton and Coco Gauff. Their friendship is clear from the fact that they travel together a lot, especially when they are having adventures in escape rooms.
Shelton freely acknowledges that his puzzle-solving abilities are extremely poor, despite their mutual love of these tasks. Particularly, Gauff has made a point of calling Shelton the least reliable member of the group and has been outspoken about his lack of consistency.
After defeating Pavel Kotov 4-6, 6-3, and 6-4, Shelton discussed it in an interview and praised Gauff’s mental toughness. Shelton said: “The squad is still together. We’re doing well, and Coco’s always going to give me a hard time and say that she’s the MVP. But she’s very good. I’ll give it to her. I’ll give her props, and I’m a little inconsistent. I’m up and down depending on the day, but. But I’m improving, you know, mental exercise for us.”
Shelton thinks he is getting better despite all of this, and it’s a terrific mental workout. Gauff does not allow Shelton’s assertion that he is still getting better to get to him. They had participated in two escape rooms before coming to Europe, with Shelton doing particularly well in one of them.

Now ranked no.14 (career-high), Shelton achieved a composed 17-8 record in 2024. The American is now competing in Rome where he conquered the world no.63 Pavel Kotov 4-6 6-3 6-4.
Ben Shelton will come up against the world no.56 Zhizhen Zhang in the 3rd round. Their actual head to head record is 1-0 for Shelton.
The American clinched 1 title in 2024 in Houston.
Shelton will compete next in Geneva (Gonet Geneva Open). He will start to play the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 19th of May.

Coco Gauff will take on the world no.68 Jaqueline Cristian in the 3rd round on Saturday at 7:00 pm on CENTER COURT. They have never competed against each other up to now in top competitions.
