Shapovalov topples Humbert to face off Benoit Paire in the quarter

Denis Shapovalov ousts Ugo Humbert 2-6 7-6³ 6-2 in the 2^nd round in Lyon on Wednesday.

The Match

It was a tough match for the young Canadian as he was tested by Humbert. In the first two sets, the 20-year-old French seemed to be much ahead than the Canadian.

Shapovalov started with a bang breaking the opening serve of Humbert to lead the set 1-0, however, Humbert broke back in the very next game to equal at 1-1. Humbert again broke Shapovalov in the 6^th game to lead 4-2 and in the 8^th game to win the first set 6-2.

In the second set, Shapovalov lost 2 break advantages but he played well to win the tie-break and managed to win the second set 7-6.

In the 3rd set, Shapovalov improved his play and broke Humbert’s serve in the 4^th game of the 3rd set to lead the set 4-1. He again broke Humbert in the 8^th game to win the set easily 6-2.

It was a good comeback from the young Canadian to come from behind and win the match.

The Canadian was pretty good at converting 50% of the breakpoints that he got (5/10), on the other hand, the French also converted 50% of the break points he got (5/10).

Shapovalov won the match 2-6 7-6³ 6-2 in 2 hours and 16 minutes.
