After posting a heartfelt video to social media, former US Open champion Dominic Thiem announced his retirement from professional tennis at thirty. The Austrian opted to quit his remarkable career at the end of the current season, acknowledging that injuries had negatively impacted his capacity to perform at the highest level and caused him to fall in the rankings.
After losing his four previous major finals, Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev at the 2020 US Open to record his only Grand Slam title and climb to a career-high world No. 3.
However, Thiem’s success in Flushing Meadows was short-lived, as he had a major wrist injury that sidelined him for ten months. Even though he was able to climb back up to the top 100, Thiem’s wrist problems have forced him to retire, dropping him to 350 in the rankings.
He expressed his thoughts about retirement recently and said: “It is a very important, very sad, very beautiful message that this season will be my last one. There are some reasons behind it: First, my wrist. is not the way it should be. The second reason is my inner feelings. I have been thinking about this decision for a very long time. I was thinking very carefully about this; of course, I was also thinking about the whole journey as a tennis player, which was incredible.”
He added: “I have had success; I have won trophies I have never dreamt of. The journey was incredible; with all the ups and downs, it was an incredible experience, which I am so thankful for. But in the end, I concluded that this decision to end my career at the end of the season was the right one. I am delighted with it and I am also super excited for everything that is coming next.”

LLLLLWLWLL Now the world no.117, Dominic played his last match on the 23rd of April when he capitulated to world no.94 Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1 6-3 in the qualifications in Madrid (draw).
During this season Dominic has an overall 6-8 win-loss record.
He is also scheduled to play in Geneva (Gonet Geneva Open) on the 19th of May and French Open (French Open) on the 26th of May.
