According to reports, Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem is planning on retiring from the game at 30. This October’s ATP 500 Erste Bank Open in Vienna is probably going to be his final competition.

Thiem is one of Austria’s most accomplished tennis players. When he won his first Grand Slam title in 2020, it was the greatest moment of his career. The 2020 US Open was won by Thiem in Flushing Meadows over Alexander Zverev. He also advanced to the Australian Open and ATP Finals in 2020, as well as the finals of Roland Garros in 2018 and 2019.

After more than two years, Thiem is still having wrist problems and has not reached his peak performance. According to speculation, Thiem will announce his retirement at his home tournament in Vienna at the end of the year.

The Austrian announced that his previous wrist issue had returned in late March of this year. After playing in a Challenger competition in Hungary, he complained of some discomfort in that area.

Thiem had posted on Instagram: “Unfortunately, a little bit before the Challenger in Hungary, the first tournament back for me, my wrist started to have some issues again. I started to have those clicks again, which bothered me right after I came back from the injury three years ago. And also, this strange feeling came back and yeah, it turned to pain in the last few weeks and there is a minor inflammation there.”
