Ahead of her campaign at the Italian Open, Coco Gauff is focusing on improving her serve after a challenging performance in Madrid.
Gauff, the US Open champion, recognizes the importance of her serve, stating, “I think for me it’s just serving better than I did last week, honestly.”
Despite a strong showing in some aspects of her game, Gauff acknowledges the need to address her serve, which has been inconsistent at times. In her recent match against Madison Keys in Madrid, she struggled with double faults, ultimately impacting the outcome of the match.
Reflecting on her performance, Gauff remains optimistic, believing that refining her serve will enhance her chances of success at Roland-Garros. She emphasizes the significance of fine-tuning this aspect of her game to secure victories against top players like Keys.
“I feel if I’m still close in these matches against Maddie (Madison Keys), who is like a top player, I think I just fix that detail, it will save me,” Gauff expressed.
Despite the serve challenges, Gauff feels confident in other areas of her game, including her returning and groundstrokes. She believes that addressing her serve will further elevate her performance on the court.
As Gauff prepares to begin her title bid in Rome, she remains focused on improvement and is determined to deliver a stronger showing, starting with her upcoming match against either Magdalena Frech or Ashlyn Krueger in the second round.
