Jiri Lehecka was forced to quit the Madrid Open 2024 after just seven games due to injury, and the Czech took his anger out on his racquet. Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the final.
Lehecka, who withdrew from Barcelona and Monte-Carlo last month due to a problem with his right vertebrae, held his lower back during the sixth game of the night session semifinal out of discomfort.
Auger-Aliassime maintained serve for three points, and Lehecka left the court to receive physiotherapy. Upon his return, the thirty-first-seeded player attempted to play again but was only able to score three points before collapsing to the floor, getting up to shake hands with his opponent, and then smashing his racket out of heartbreak.
