After making it to the Madrid Open semifinal, Felix Auger-Aliassime provided an update on his coaching partnership with Toni Nadal. Though Toni hasn’t been in his box in a few months, the Canadian hired Rafael Nadal’s uncle and former coach in 2021. Although they remain in contact, Auger-Aliassime has now officially stated that Toni is no longer a member of his team.

Although Toni is still identified on the official ATP website as one of Auger-Aliassime’s coaches, their relationship’s status has been unclear for some months.

Additionally, Auger-Aliassime stated on Thursday that the 63-year-old was no longer involved in team activities. However, he is being accompanied in Madrid by his longtime coach, Frederic Fontang.

Auger-Aliassime expressed his thoughts about it and said: “My coach has been here this whole tournament, Frederic; you saw him on the court. My physio, my friends, and my hitting partner. And no, Toni is back home. So far, we are travelling just this team together.”

He continued: “My dad has also been with me more and more this year. Indoors, he was with me in Monte Carlo and Munich. So my dad is also a big help at times; he’s going to be at the French Open. Until further notice, Toni, we’re still in touch but he’s not actively part of the team, like travelling with me. But he always had a good voice. To add, let’s say somebody from the outside who has experience. But he’s not actively with us this week.”
