Andrey Rublev, the Russian tennis star, has recently shed light on a humorous yet recurring aspect of his public life – being constantly mistaken for other players on the ATP tour. In a candid interview with TV Start, Rublev shared some amusing anecdotes about the instances where fans confused him with fellow tennis professionals.

“I get mistaken for a lot of players – Shapovalou, Zuerev, Tsitsipas, Sinner, so it’s fun, yeah,” Rublev chuckled during the interview.

Rublev recounted a particularly memorable encounter during the Roland Garros tournament in Paris. “Just this year, in Paris, during Roland Garros, some Italians started saying ‘Sinner, Sinner’. I tell them, ‘I’m not Sinner’. They continue: ‘Yes, Sinner, Sinner’, I go ‘Honestly, I’m not Sinner, I’m telling you.'”

Despite Rublev’s attempts to clarify his identity, the fans remained convinced that they were in the presence of Jannik Sinner, an Italian tennis sensation. “They go ‘No, you’re lying to us. Can we take a photo with you?” Rublev recalled. “I tell them: ‘I’m not Sinner, stop it, get away from me’. They got annoyed, so I showed them the middle finger. Seems like Sinner disappointed them,” added Rublev, with a hint of amusement in his voice.

Rublev’s experience highlights the occasional confusion and mistaken identity that athletes face in the public eye. Despite his frustration, he managed to find humor in the situation and shared it as an entertaining anecdote.
