In terms of strategy and support, the player’s box can be quite important to players competing at the top level of tennis. However, that is not all that matters to Coco Gauff. Gauff disclosed in a recent interview that it may also be stressful, particularly when her father, Corey Gauff, is there. She went on to say that she would much rather have her emotional father watch her game from afar.
In a recent interview, Gauff opened up about how her father’s behaviour has affected her performance.
She said: “My dad doesn’t give the best reactions in the box. He’s a very emotional person. Sometimes when I lose a point, the first thing I look at is the box.”
Notably, Corey has been instrumental in helping his daughter advance in her career. He has always encouraged her to do better, whether it is through his teaching since she was a little child or by taking her to various tennis tournaments to boost her interest in the sport. Naturally, Corey reacts with strong feelings when he witnesses her lose a point in her game.
She did admit that she finds some solace in her father’s sincere response to her game. She added: “And there’s something more reassuring about seeing somebody clapping.”
