Tennis players Paula Badosa, Carlos Alcaraz, and others have reacted to Garbine Muguruza’s announcement of her retirement.

After losing her opening four matches of the 2023 tennis season, Muguruza decided to take a long vacation from the game. She didn’t say when she would be back at the moment. When questioned about her comeback earlier this year, she stated that she had no plans to go back.

Recently, Muguruza announced her retirement in a press conference and said: “I wanted to say that it is time to say goodbye. It has been a long and beautiful career. A career full of anecdotes and moments. I could speak about so many of them, but I am feeling that it’s time for me to retire & open a new chapter.”

On social media, the 30-year-old received a ton of farewell comments after making her announcement. In a touching tribute to the Spanish-Venezuelan, Badosa noted the significance of Muguruza in influencing both her career and Spanish tennis in general.

Badosa wrote on X: “You were the mirror where I looked at myself since I was little. Thank you, Garbi for giving so much to Spanish tennis. It was a pleasure to share these years with you. Happy life, you deserve it.”

Carlos Alcaraz also added his remarks, wishing Muguruza happiness in retirement after the end of a remarkable career.

Alcaraz wrote: “Congratulations on your great career! Enjoy everything that comes now.”
