Incredible stuff in Rome as Nick Kyrgios succumbs to an epic meltdown during his match against the world no.76 Casper Ruud to be disqualified.
Why has Kyrgios defaulted?
The Australian was in “Nick mode” playing the match with his weird stuff. The local crowd seemed to appreciate that, and Kyrgios looked to be extremely happy with that. After exchanging the first 2 sets with the Norwegian, Kyrgios broke his opponent in the 1st game of the decider.
Then Nick was broken in the following game to get fully ballistic. In fact, when he was midway through a service toss, he noticed someone moving and got really upset about that to start complaining. Then after he lost his serve, he couldn’t contain himself to receive a game point, and after he threw a side table in the court to be disqualified.
Curiously he had a “nice” handshake with the umpire soon after.
Was Kyrgios scared to play Djokovic?
The Australian was 2 steps away from playing against Djokovic in the quarters. A few hours before Kyrgios had very nasty comments about Djokovic adding that if he beats him he will do his celebration in front of him. This was the best way for him to avoid this confrontation on center court.
