Mikael Ymer recently declared his intention to withdraw from retirement, which he had taken after being controversially suspended for eighteen months for breaking anti-doping regulations. He revealed that he intends to return to the court after the end of his prohibition.
When Ymer failed three attempts at an out-of-competition test in 12 months, an anti-doping rule violation was brought against him in January 2022. He first denied the accusations, and in June of that year, an impartial panel found him not guilty.
But in July 2022, the Swedish tennis player faced a two-year penalty from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), which had contested the independent tribunal’s ruling. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) looked into the ITF’s appeal and put an 18-month sanction in place afterwards.
Ymer announced his retirement from the sport on social media, expressing his dissatisfaction with the CAS verdict.
He wrote on X: “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from professional Tennis. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in the competition.”
But Ymer recently stated on social media that he intends to return to tennis after completing his ban since he found retirement to be boring.
Ymer wrote: “Retirement was boring see you in 8 months.”
