Novak Djokovic made history on Friday by making it to the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters semifinals for the first time since winning the tournament in 2015. This put him just two victories away from completing his third sweep of all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles.
The world No. 1 wasn’t at his fluid best against Alex de Minaur in a close match, but he managed to find the necessary level to win 7-5, 6-4. The 36-year-old is going for a record-tying 41st ATP Masters 1000 title this week, having made history on Sunday by being the oldest No. 1 in ATP Rankings history.
Djokovic expressed his happiness after the win and said: “I am very happy to be back in the semis. It has been a while. I love this tournament. I love this club as well, I have been training at this club for many years. The past seven, eight years have been tough for me to win seven or eight matches consecutively, but here we are another semis.”
