Novak Djokovic opened up about his doubts and the challenges he faced during his match against Lorenzo Musetti at the Monte Carlo Masters. Despite securing the victory, Djokovic admitted he’s not yet reached his peak performance level.
Speaking about the match, Djokovic emphasized the test Musetti posed as an exceptional player, especially on clay courts. He recalled his loss to Musetti in similar circumstances the previous year, which weighed on his mind during the match.
“I don’t think I’m at my top level yet. It was a great test today against an amazing player… Very talented player, particularly on clay,” Djokovic remarked, acknowledging the threat Musetti posed.
Reflecting on his previous encounter with Musetti, Djokovic admitted that memories of last year’s loss resurfaced when he lost a break in the second set. “I was a set and 4-2 up. Then I lost the break. I must say it was in the back of my mind when I lost the break in the 2nd set today. I was like ‘Oh no.. hopefully it’s not a similar scenario to last year.’”
Despite these doubts, Djokovic managed to overcome the challenge and secure the win. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism but acknowledged the need to take things one day at a time.
“I’m really glad to overcome the challenge and look forward to the next one. I’ll just take it one day at a time and see how it goes,” Djokovic stated, indicating his focused approach to the tournament.
As Djokovic continues his campaign at the Monte Carlo Masters, his ability to navigate through doubts and challenges reaffirms his status as one of tennis’s greatest champions.
