In a conversation, Daniil Medvedev said that he is still in a courteous and decent relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas, his longtime opponent.

After the conflict that occurred during the early phases of their conflict, Medvedev disclosed that everything between him and Tsitsipas only progressed positively. After an intense and memorable first match at the 2018 Miami Masters, Medvedev and Tsitsipas have developed one of the most exciting rivalries on the ATP Tour in recent years.

The Monte Carlo Masters is currently taking place, and if both Medvedev and Tsitsipas win their respective last 16 matches on Thursday, they may cross paths in the quarterfinals.

During an interview, Medvedev was questioned concerning his friendship with Tsitsipas and if he would invite the Greek player over for a drink.

Medvedev expressed his thoughts about it and said: “I don’t drink wine (laughs). In tennis, in general, being very close friends with someone is difficult. You need to know each other for a long time and have common interests – like Andrey [Rublev], Karen [Khachanov] and Roman [Safiullin]. It seems to me that now we (himself and Tsitsipas) have completely normal, respectful relations. Who knows, maybe there will be some more controversy on the court. But, in my opinion, everything developed only in a positive direction for us. Now we respect each other as athletes and treat each other completely calmly.”

Tsitsipas and Medvedev shared the court during a practice session at Indian Wells last month, and afterwards, Tsitsipas was questioned about their rivalry. Tsitsipas said: “Well, it’s a long history. I mean, whatever happened [in Miami], how many years ago was that? 10 years ago? It was a long time ago. I guess people still expect some sort of a controversy or hatred between us two, but this has been long gone, and not something I focus too much on these days.”
