Czech Republic wins the Fed Cup

Another year, another triumph for the Czech Republic in Prague.

The European team has won its 4 title in 5 years after a rough final against Russia. Maria Sharapova was in top form to beat both Pliskova and Kvitova; this allowed Masha to give a 2-1 lead to Russia, but then the home team managed to win the last single (Pliskova d. Pavlyuchenkova) and Pliskova and Strycova won a dramatic and decisive point when they were 1 set down (4-6 6-3 6-2) in doubles.

Pliskova: One of the biggest win in my career

Karolina was absolutely elated with this win to comment “It’s the first experience for me in the Fed Cup so I’m really happy how we made it and we both played really good. It’s definitely one of the biggest wins in my career. I was trying to focus on my serve and it was working so I’m really happy for that.”

Maria was very happy for her participation even if her team didn’t manage to win the competition “This is one of the few competitions where you’re not just playing for yourself – I would look over to my team and they were standing up every time. And that’s the meaning of this event. There’s no better feeling than being out on the court and having so many people from Russia fly out to support you, your teammates on the side cheering you on.”
