Hurkacz Elated After Winning His First Clay Court Title In Estoril

Polish tennis player Hubert Hurkacz showcased his formidable serve in a dominant performance at the Millennium Estoril Open, securing his eighth ATP Tour title. Hurkacz defeated Pedro Martinez 6-3, 6-4 in the final, marking his first tour-level clay court triumph.

Expressing his satisfaction with the win, Hurkacz credited his strong serving performance, which included 15 aces, as a key factor in his success. Reflecting on the challenge posed by Martinez, he highlighted the need for top-notch tennis to emerge victorious.

“I’m so happy with my performance today,” said Hurkacz. “I’m proud that I found my serve and that definitely helped me a lot. Pedro is such a great competitor, an amazing battle last night. I needed to play really great tennis to compete with him and fortunately I did it.”

Hurkacz’s impressive statistics, winning 83% of points behind his first serve, underscored his dominance on the court. With a decisive ace sealing his victory, he extended his unbeaten record against Martinez to 3-0.

“Obviously it is something special to play in a final,” Hurkacz commented on the significance of the occasion. “There was such a great crowd, a great atmosphere and I just really appreciate all the support. It’s an amazing tournament and it was so fun to be here for a week.”

Following his triumph in Estoril, Hurkacz will ascend two places in the ATP Rankings to a joint-career high No. 8. With newfound confidence, he eagerly anticipates his next challenge at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, where he will face Jack Draper in the opening round.

Despite falling short in the final, Martinez can take pride in his strong showing throughout the tournament. His notable victory over World No. 8 Casper Ruud in the semifinals propelled him to a significant rise in the ATP Rankings, reflecting the promising trajectory of his career.
