Carlos Alcaraz says he has no issues being ranked No. 3

Carlos Alcaraz has said he won't feel any different pressure at the Monte Carlo Masters, even if Jannik Sinner has surpassed him in the ATP Rankings.

Alcaraz Plays

Despite being surpassed by Jannik Sinner in the ATP Rankings, Carlos Alcaraz has stated that he won’t feel any different pressure at the Monte Carlo Masters.

As the only player to defeat Sinner this season on his way to a victorious defence of his Indian Wells championship, Alcaraz is currently ranked third in the world.

With a good performance in the competition, Alcaraz might rise back to the top spot in the rankings, especially as Sinner needs to defend semi-final points from a year ago.

Alcaraz acknowledged that his expectations going into the event would not alter, despite the difficult hand he was dealt.

Alcaraz expressed his thoughts about it and said: “Being No 1 or No 2 is great, but just one position down does not change too much. I know the players in front of me deserve this position so I have to work to recover this. I don’t play with different pressures being No 2 or No 3.”

He added: “I had a few days off after Miami and started playing on clay a little bit. I don’t take too many days to play at my best on the surface, so the practice I have done on clay was very good, hopefully, I start the tournament in a good way. I am really happy to be here in Monte-Carlo. It is a really beautiful tournament. I watched this tournament many times since I was a little kid. I just played once. It didn’t go well in 2022 but I am excited to start the tournament here and see how it is going to be. I am really happy about it. Hopefully, I [have] a good run here, make the final rounds.”
