Novak Djokovic has said that Jannik Sinner has been the best player in the world to date this year as the two get ready to clash at the Monte Carlo Masters this week.

Sinner And Djokovic

As the two prepare to compete at the Monte Carlo Masters this week, Novak Djokovic has acknowledged that Jannik Sinner has been the finest player in the world so far this year.

Sinner has been in incredible form in 2024, having only lost one entire season at Indian Wells to fellow young star Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner prevailed in both their meetings in the ATP Finals group stage and the Davis Cup the following week, helping Italy win by saving three set points. The Serbian did win the ATP Finals in Turin when the two faced off in the final, but Sinner won the last four in Melbourne back in January.

Djokovic stated his remarks about Sinner in a recent interview and said: “Jannik is the best player in the world this year so far. He has had tremendous success. He has improved a lot. Overall his game, his serve, his movement and mentally he is always there. In the important matches the difference of Jannik in the past six months and before that is he is winning the big matches. He learned from his experiences before and made himself a tougher player. [He’s] more of a big-time player.”

He added: “We all knew that he could hit hard, forehand and backhand, that he loves to be aggressive by dictating the points. He always does this but now he hits fewer errors and more margin. This is a very great evolution from a technical and tactical point of view. He plays incredible tennis.”
