Carlos Alcaraz expressed doubts about his chances of competing in doubles alongside fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris because of the 22-time Grand Slam winner’s health concerns.

Nadal has only participated in one tournament since returning to the court this year, the Brisbane International, after an 11-month break due to a hip injury.

At the upcoming Olympics in Paris, Nadal and Alcaraz are said to be teaming up to represent Spain in the doubles division. But considering his prospective partner’s poor attendance at competitions, the 20-year-old is uncertain that the partnership will ever happen.

At the Royal Palace of El Pardo in Madrid, King Felipe VI recently presented Alcaraz with the Spanish Sportsman of the Year title in recognition of his accomplishments during the 2022 calendar year. In an interview with the media following the royal event, Alcaraz discussed the possibility of playing doubles with Nadal.

Alcaraz expressed his thoughts about it and said: “At the moment, I don’t know anything about his condition, or how he [Rafael Nadal] is doing. Obviously, as a Spaniard and a tennis player, I’m worried about that. Let’s see how he and I get there, in the end, there are still four months left. Anything can happen, but I hope it can happen.”
