The upcoming Rolex Monte Carlo Masters is set to witness a significant Italian contingent, led by Jannik Sinner, who will be seeded second in the singles draw. Joining him are Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Arnaldi, and Matteo Berrettini, who received a wildcard entry.
Also vying for a spot in the main draw are Lorenzo Sonego, Flavio Cobolli, and Luca Nardi, currently competing in the qualifying rounds.
“Sinner will attempt a historic feat, a milestone achieved only by Novak Djokovic in the Open Era. Apart from Djokovic in 2015, no one has won the Australian Open, Miami, and Monte Carlo in the same season. After his impressive victories in the first two, Jannik will try to replicate the feat of the current world number one, also aiming to close the gap at the top,” reports indicate.
Sinner, in addition to his singles campaign, will also compete in the doubles event alongside Lorenzo Sonego, potentially forming part of Italy’s Olympic team. However, Sonego’s position in the Olympic Race remains uncertain.
“Sinner and Sonego join Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, as well as Lorenzo Musetti, who will partner with Nicolas Jarry. Several intriguing pairings emerge from the singles players, including Khachanov/Rublev, Rune/Fritz, Griekspoor/Hurkacz, Dimitrov/Korda, and Medvedev/Safiullin. Defending champions Dodig/Krajicek are also set to compete as the second seeds,” sources confirm.
