Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal’s uncle, recently said that Carlos Alcaraz seems to have a slightly superior game than Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz and Sinner have made outstanding starts to the 2024 season thus far. In the four events that he has participated in thus far, the latter has claimed three titles. He started the year at the Australian Open semifinals of 2024, defeating Novak Djokovic, the reigning champion. Sinner went on to win his maiden Grand Slam by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the championship match.
Alcaraz, on the other hand, had a great start to the season, reaching the semifinals of the Argentina Open and the Australian Open. In the final, he defeated Daniil Medvedev to successfully defend his title at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Toni said in a recent interview that it will be difficult to defeat Sinner and Alcaraz while praising both of them. Toni thinks the Spaniard is marginally better than the Italian, even if their head-to-head record is level at 4-4.
Toni expressed his thoughts and said: “[Tennis] has received the baton because the two [Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner] are showing that they will be difficult to beat for their rivals. [Carlos Alcaraz] still seems a little better than Sinner.”
Although he believes Sinner is the favourite to become the world’s number one, Toni stated his excitement for the battle between Sinner and Alcaraz to grow in the upcoming years.
He added: “[Jannik Sinner] does not fail, and today he is the top favourite to reach number one. A very good rivalry in the coming years for tennis, for Spain and sport in general.”
