Nieminen ends career with Federer on his side

Emotional stuff in Helsinki as Jarkko Nieminen plays his last match against (better”with”) his dear friend Roger Federer.

The Swiss Legend didn’t hesitate a moment to take the plane to participate to the “Final Night” that was the perfect chance for him to say goodbye to his fans. The Hartwall Arena was packed with tennis fans that had the opportunity to see Nieminen pairing with former NHL player Teemu Selanne and Federer teaming up with Swedish NHL legend Peter Forsberg. (Nieminen won 6-3).

Then there was the “real final match” with Jarkko taking over King Roger. Eventually it was the Swiss to win 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7), but the result wasn’t important at all.

Nieminen: I am a happy guy

Jarkko thanked everybody for 10 minutes after the match and then he expressed his happiness a gratitude for the crowd, his wife and his daughter.

Federer: One of the most generous of friends

Roger commented “He has always been one of the most generous of friends and he did not behave differently outside the court than on the pitch. We always come along very well with each other.

Jarkko retires after winning 2 tournaments (Sydney 2006 and Auckland 2012) and reaching a career high world no.13.

Time to move no… and good luck to Jarkko.
