Venus Williams is definitely back!
The former world no.1 wins the prestigious Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai to get the points to get back in the top10 after 4 years and half. This is a huge achievement if you consider that Venus had to battle against the nasty Sjogren’s Syndrome and, on a different plan, the first time that the American broke in the top10 was 17 years ago (!!!).
As anticipated this feat was possible after Venus won Zhuhai beating Karolina Pliskova 7-5 7-6 (6). At the end of the match Venus commented “I’m so excited to win the first trophy in Zhuhai. All the players felt so welcome here and we appreciated all of the enthusiasm. To see every seat filled for every match, that’s all the players and tournament hope for.
Also congratulations to Karolina. She deserved to win too – I was really lucky to win at the end.”
