Following their split announcement a few days ago, Novak Djokovic and his coach Goran Ivanisevic shocked the tennis world. Djokovic won 12 singles Grand Slam titles in less than six years due to the two of them forming one of the most successful coaching tandems.
Everyone was surprised by the sudden split because there were so many other titles in the various ATP Tour divisions. Even while the Croatian has made significant contributions over the past five years, Djokovic has remained modest. Despite mentioning a few ups and downs, he was brief on the separation.
Ivanisevic revealed the truth while experts and fans were still debating and speculating about the potential cause. Ivanisevic expressed his thoughts about it and said: “I’ve read a lot. People have to write, but no one has come close to hitting it. There is no real reason, the real reason is saturation. These have been extremely difficult five years, people forget the corona and that at one point he was the world’s number one villain due to non-vaccination. We reached a certain level of saturation, as I like to say, ‘material fatigue’ just as a car needs a regular service and tune I became tired of him, and he became tired of me. In any case, I didn’t feel like I could help him anymore.”
He added: “A split has not occurred in America, it has never ‘happened’. If I’m going to be honest, I still felt it at the US Open last year. America was incredible, Cincinnati and the US Open were won, and I already felt that the end was near. There was a question about whether at the end of the year or sometime this year. Maybe we should have done it last year, but after the US Open I had knee surgery, I was gone for six or seven weeks, I came back for Turin, but it was already that material fatigue, and communication.”
Goran Ivanisevic on why his partnership with Novak Djokovic ended:
