I was too tired. TSITSIPAS

Stefanos acknowledged Djokovic's great performance in the Madrid final to also admit that he was too tired.

Stefanos Tsitsipas tired in Rome

Stefanos Tsitsipas lost his 2nd ATP1000 final in Madrid to a great Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

There is a big difference between this final and the one that he lost in the other Master1000 in Toronto 2018. In fact, in Canada, it was the first time that Stefanos reached such an important milestone, while in Spain he was much more experienced, but he succumbed to both a great Novak Djokovic and physical burnout.

Playing too much was a mistake

Besides the fact that the world no.1 played extremely well (and Stefanos was very honest about that), the Greek sensation had to admit that he felt tired. After reaching the final in Miami, Tsitsipas made an (inconsiderate) promise to his doubles partner Wesley Koolhof to play with him at every single ATP1000 Master until the end of the year. That wasn’t a great move and Stefanos played the price in Madrid as he arrived flat to the final after he played 13 matches in 13th days after winning Estoril, and reaching the doubles semifinal and the singles final in Madrid.

I didn’t feel my legs. TSITSIPAS

Stefanos defended his idea of playing doubles (see article), but eventually he had to concede that he was struggling from a physical point of view to comment

“Physically, I was not there. My legs were not coping with my mind. I could feel the fatigue and soreness not just in my legs, but everywhere in my body.

It’s tough physically because you always have to reach your maximum effort and to give your highest level to beat those guys. They just make you suffer. It is really tough to physically cope with that and I think that’s the biggest challenge if you’re going to play all of those guys in the same tournament.”

Stefanos will now fly to Rome probably with a huge burnout. Of course, he is in the doubles draw.

Time to stop this nonsense?
