Andy Murray, the three-time Grand Slam champion, is facing an uncertain timeline for his return to professional tennis after sustaining an ankle injury. His management team confirmed on Friday that the British tennis star will be absent from the upcoming clay-court tournaments in Monte Carlo and Munich.
The 36-year-old Murray suffered ligament tears in his left ankle during a match at the Miami Open last Sunday. Following the injury, Murray announced the next day that he would be sidelined “for an extended period.”
“At this stage, it is still not clear how long Andy will be out of action, and he is continuing to review options with his medical team,” stated his management team on Friday.
Despite the setback, Murray remains determined to return to the court as soon as possible, as reiterated by his management team: “Obviously this is very disappointing news for Andy and he has reiterated his desire to get back on court as soon as possible.”
The injury occurred late in the third set of his match against Tomas Machac when Murray rolled his ankle on an approach to the net. Despite the discomfort, he finished the match, ultimately losing 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5).
With the Monte Carlo Masters set to commence on April 7 and the BMW Open in Munich the following week, Murray’s absence from these tournaments is a blow to his competitive schedule.
Murray, who has previously stated that he is unlikely to continue playing professional tennis beyond this summer, has been holding out hope of representing Britain in the Paris Olympics.
The uncertainty surrounding Murray’s recovery timeline leaves fans and tennis enthusiasts eagerly awaiting updates on his condition and potential return to the sport.
