Lorenzo Musetti defeated 16th seed Ben Shelton on Monday to go to the Miami Open’s fourth round.
Musetti acknowledged Veronica Confalonieri, his girlfriend, for her unwavering support, particularly when she gave birth to their son Ludovico on March 15.
Musetti said during his on-court interview after beating Shelton: “That was my biggest victory; nothing compares against the birth of [son] Ludovico. I just want to say thanks to my girlfriend Veronica, who helped me in the process of coming here and doing my job at the best in the most professional way that I could.”
The Italian said he was going to give his son and girlfriend virtual hugs. He added: “I’m happy for myself and for them and I want to call them and have some hugs from the distance.”

Currently the world no.24, the Italian played his last match on the 25th of March when he beat world no.17 Ben Shelton 6-4 7-6(5) in the 3rd round in Miami (draw).
During this season the Italian has managed to achieve a composed 7-8 match record.
Musetti will play next in Estoril (Millennium Estoril Open). He will start the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 1st of April.
