Weird stuffs in Singapore! Sharapova and Muguruza dominated their groups winning all matches to play Kvitova and Radwanska that managed to get to the final 4 winning only 1 match of 3. So Maria and Garbine were widely expected to reach the final, but they were both upset.

Kvitova d. Sharapova

Petra played a great match against Maria to win the opener 6-3. Things got extremely ugly for the Russian in the second set when she squandered a 5-1 lead to lose 5 consecutive games. Eventually Maria brought the set to the breaker that she lost at 3 after being 2-0 up. The final score was 6-3 7-6 (3).

Petra was candid enough not to hide her surprise “I didn’t expect this, for sure. I had two losses in my group, and I couldn’t really believe I would play the semifinals. And I knew Maria would be strong today – she played so well in the round robin group, so I expected a really tough match. But I knew I had the game to beat her, and that I really had to keep trying today.”

Radwanska d. Muguruza

Even if Muguruza was the clear favorite for getting to the final, Aga had a shot as the Spaniard was clearly tired for competing and reaching the semis in both singles and doubles. The affair ended after a 2 hours and 38 minutes’ battle with Radwanska winning 6-7 (5) 6-3 7-5.

The Pole was extremely emotional during the on-court interview to comment “I have no words to say really. I didn’t know if I could come back after that first set, but I think it was a great match from the beginning until the end, so many rallies and a lot of running. I’m just so glad I could win this match in the end.

After two losses in the beginning I thought it was kind of over for me here. Then I was just cheering for Maria, and she did a good job helping me get to the semifinal. I hope I can keep going now.”

The final

Kvitova leads Radwanska 6-2 (3-2 on indoor hard-court), the Czech is the favorite for the title.
