During the fourth day of the WTA 1000 event, Coco Gauff expressed her frustration with the Miami Open’s handling of multiple weather delays.

At the Miami Open on Friday, rain caused a six-hour delay before the matches started. Even though play eventually started, before the rain came back, only seven singles WTA matches were finished.

Rain forced the suspension of many matches, but Gauff was lucky enough to finish and defeat Nadia Podoroska 6-1, 6-2 to go to the third round. Gauff was happy with her commanding performance, especially considering how long she had to wait for the match.

She said during her post-match press conference: “Yeah, it was a good match for me. Lots of waiting, but glad we were able to get it done today. Yeah, I was happy with how I played. I was most pleased with just starting the match well because when you come out and it’s a long wait, you never know how you’re going to start.”

Gauff expressed her dissatisfaction with the event organizers for providing them with false start times, calling the circumstances strange. She said: “Yeah, so I came as per my normal schedule, even though I knew it was going to rain. Shortened my warm-up before I hit so I could get a chance to hit. I did hit 15 minutes at, like, 9 in the morning. Don’t know if that made a difference because we played so much later. Yeah, I was just waiting around, talking to some folks, playing some games, and reading. It felt like a long wait. I was kind of not sure when to eat. Also, the tournament was giving us unrealistic ‘not before’ times, so that felt a little bit weird, too.”
