Federer. Nadal made me improve in 1 important aspect

Roger Federer is in the last part of his tremendous career (sigh) and he has many memories. The most intense one is his incredible rivalry with his nemesis: Rafael Nadal.

We all know that King Roger has struggled from day one against Rafa for many reasons: the Spaniard is a rough lefty, he has an incredible spin, he is a huge competitor and… he is Rafa! At least Roger managed to profit from this rivalry.

Federer: I improved my shots

Roger said that playing with Rafa made him to change his shots big time “The most intense rivalry I have ever had was with Rafa, no doubt on that. It has been an epic and incredible rivalry and it will continue to be like this because we are going to play often in the future.

He made me change my game many times since he is lefty and we had never seen a player who could hit the ball with so much spin. If we see the way I played in 1999 and the way I play now, the change is brutal. Now I play with more strength, before I had such a ‘soft’ game.

My movements, the way I hit the ball, I’m a different player due to Rafa’s presence”.

Nadal leads Roger 23-10 in H2H matches. Rafa won the last 5 conceding just 1 set to Roger.
