Coco Gauff lost to Maria Sakkari in a rain-shortened three-set match on Friday in the Indian Wells semifinals. To get to the BNP Paribas Open final, Sakkari overcame Gauff 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 after losing three match points in the second set.
There have been multiple pauses in the Indian Wells Masters’ second semifinal thus far. The first set was eventually finished, though it was first postponed due to deteriorating weather. Then there was another delay when Gauff called her physiotherapist. The young American was up against Sakkari and was struggling to perform at a competitive level.
Gauff doesn’t typically have these problems, but her physio checkup took longer than anticipated.
One fan wrote on X: “It doesn’t feel good. Coco Gauff requested medical assistance after finishing the first set because she felt dizzy and a little nauseous. They are taking your blood pressure.”
The commentators also verified that she lost control of the lead when play restarted in the first set because she felt nauseous.
