On Indian Wells quarterfinal day, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev had to leave the court due to a flood of bees, causing some odd events. Before the chair umpire declared that the match could not go on because of a bee invasion, world No. 2 was noticed running. Later on, it was revealed that Alcaraz had suffered a sting on his forehead throughout the encounter. More than ninety minutes after the match was delayed, a beekeeper was called in to mediate, and the Spaniard emerged victorious.

After just eighteen minutes of play in their Indian Wells quarterfinal meet, Alcaraz and Zverev were subjected to one of the most bizarre match penalties in recent memory. The Spaniard looked up to see a swarm of bees flying through the air, seemingly disturbed by something, as he stood up to serve at 1-1.

Alcaraz said after the match: “I saw some bees around, but I thought it was just a few of them. But I saw the sky and there were thousands flying, stuck in my hair, going to me. It was crazy. I tried to stay away from them, but it was impossible. I’m a little bit afraid of them. I had to stay safe, and I was running everywhere.”

After that, Alcaraz lauded the effort of a beekeeper who sent the bees away without wearing any gloves. Alcaraz posted on his X account: “Not all heroes wear capes.”
