Sinner Talks About Pressure After Grand Slam Win

After making it to the Indian Wells quarterfinals for the second year in a row, Jannik Sinner has now won eighteen straight games.

Last night in California, Sinner won in straight sets, 7-6(1), 6-1, after beating Ben Shelton. Sinner talked about it after the match and said: “For sure, it was a different matchup. I knew that I was playing against him; there was not so much rhythm. But I think I can be proud of how I played. I just tried to stay positive. There were tough moments, especially in the first set. I’m really happy that I won that and started positive in the second set, which gave me a lot of confidence.”

Though he seems to be taking everything in stride, the 22-year-old has candidly discussed how winning his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open has transformed his life.

He further said: “Winning a Grand Slam, it’s an incredible feeling, a nice feeling. I still have it on my mind. But in another way, we are already months away. I’m playing here, and I have pressure on my shoulders. This is normal. I also enjoy these kinds of moments on the court. To be around fans and crowds, it’s a good feeling.”

Sinner became the second U23 player in the Open Era to begin a season with 15 straight ATP match victories at Indian Wells.
