Alcaraz Gives Positive Updates About His Ankle Injury After Indian Wells Opener

Carlos Alcaraz, hungry for success, seeks to find his rhythm at the BNP Paribas Open following a turbulent start to the season. Despite overcoming Matteo Arnaldi in three sets in his opening match at the ATP Masters 1000 event, Alcaraz acknowledges the challenges he faces.

Reflecting on his victory, Alcaraz admitted to concerns about his ankle injury sustained in Rio de Janeiro last month. He emphasized the impact of the injury on his preparation, stating, “I’m recovering from injury on the ankle. I was thinking about it all the time and I couldn’t practise as much as I wanted, with the high intensity.”

Comparing his current situation to the previous year’s performance, Alcaraz noted the difference in match readiness. Last year, he arrived at Indian Wells with more matches and rhythm, setting the stage for a dream run where he clinched his third Masters 1000 crown. In contrast, this year presents a challenge, with Alcaraz entering the tournament with fewer matches under his belt and a 6-3 tally for the season.

Acknowledging the impact of nerves on his performance, Alcaraz recognized the importance of maintaining focus and composure on the court. He confessed, “I couldn’t be focused 100 per cent in the match and it made me get a little bit nervous.” Alcaraz stressed the significance of managing nerves to maintain his aggressive style of play, highlighting the need to stay calm and wait for opportunities.

Despite the initial setback, Alcaraz remains determined to regain momentum and make his mark at the BNP Paribas Open. As he navigates the challenges posed by injury recovery and match readiness, Alcaraz’s resilience and determination shine through, setting the stage for an exciting journey ahead in the tournament.
