Djokovic beats Tomic

Novak Djokovic for once has been tested in Asia.

The world no.1 has cruised during the tournament in Beijing and in the first 2 rounds in Shanghai where he was finally tested by Bernard Tomic.

In the opener, the Serb broke Bernard in the 6th game (4-2) to immediately lose his serve in the following game. Eventually the 1st set went to the tiebreak when Nole had to save 2 consecutive set points (4-6) to win the breaker at 6. Finally Tomic imploded in the second set to lose the match 7-6 (6) 6-1.

Djokovic: Bernard payed some smart tennis

Nole commented “It was a very good first set. High quality tennis from both of us. Especially Bernard played some smart tennis, stepping in every shorter ball, serving very accurately. He pushed me. Went down to a couple points to decide the first set in the tie-break.

Obviously it was a huge relief for me to win the first set, and started off the second with a break. That gave me more confidence. I think I played a very, very good second set.”

Novak will ply the semifinal against either Murray or Berdych.
