Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis icon, has opened up about his physical condition as he prepares to make his return to competitive tennis after an extended break due to injury. Speaking candidly, Nadal admitted uncertainty about his current state but emphasized his determination to compete.

“I don’t know how I am. Being really honest, because at this point I have no choice but to be honest, I haven’t played a set since Brisbane. I’ve had better and worse moments. The most important thing for me is that I’m here,” Nadal revealed.

Acknowledging the challenges he has faced, Nadal highlighted the significance of his presence on the court as a positive sign. “If I am here it is already good news,” he remarked, indicating his progress in overcoming his injury setback.

Nadal outlined his goals, expressing his focus on gradually returning to form rather than fixating on immediate results. “Two weeks ago, beyond the results, the goal was to play the match in Las Vegas and Indian Wells and I am closer to achieve it. I do not know at what level I will be in Indian Wells, but it is the least important thing today,” he explained.

Despite his uncertainties, Nadal maintained optimism and a commitment to his training regimen. “For me, it is important to spend a few days in Indian Wells and train with professionals,” he stated, highlighting his preparation for the upcoming tournaments.

Looking ahead to his matches, Nadal expressed eagerness to compete alongside fellow tennis player Carlos Alcaraz in Las Vegas. He also outlined his plans to prioritize his health and well-being during the Indian Wells tournament.

“I hope to play a set between this Sunday’s match and the three days I have left before my debut. For me, the priority is to try to get out of Indian Wells unscathed,” Nadal affirmed, underlining his cautious approach to avoid aggravating his injury.

In conclusion, Nadal hinted at his future plans, suggesting a potential focus on the clay season while leaving open the possibility that it may be his last. “Whatever has to be left, leave it in the clay season, which may or may not be the last, I have not decided 100 percent,” he concluded, hinting at the uncertainties surrounding his tennis career beyond the immediate future.
