Tsitsipas emotional when helping people in Acapulco

To help with the reconstruction of Acapulco, Stefanos Tsitsipas has promised to donate money for each ace he hits at the Mexican Open this year.

Tsitsipas To Donate Money To Acapulco Victims

Stefanos Tsitsipas has pledged to donate money for each ace he hits at the Mexican Open this year because he wants to contribute to the rebuilding of Acapulco.

In October of last year, Hurricane Otis, a Category 5 natural disaster, wreaked havoc in Acapulco. It left a path of devastation worth billions of dollars and many lives were lost. Since then, officials have said that it was the most expensive tropical storm to ever impact Mexico.

Tsitsipas vowed ahead of this year’s ATP 500 event in Acapulco that he would donate $1,000 for each ace he hits throughout the competition.

He said: “I will be donating $1,000 for every ace I hit this week in Acapulco. It’s going to be transferred to the relief programs for Acapulco in 2024.”

He added that he got emotional while witnessing the destruction and wanted to contribute. He further said: “In tough moments like this, I want to contribute and be helpful. So that was completely a no-brainer; that was something that I initially planned a long time ago and I wanted to make sure Acapulco gets fed and gets supported in difficult times. And you know, I saw a massive line when I was arriving at the airport to the courts of people waiting to be fed. So that kind of made me feel emotional about the whole situation and I’m happy that through tennis, I’m able to create happiness and also give hope to people that have been suffering for all these months.”
