Andy Murray explains why tennis players are hypocritical about schedules

Andy Murray has taken a dig at his fellow players for complaining about how long the tennis calendar is. Some tennis players have previously expressed frustration with the tough tennis schedule.

Andy Murray Talks

Andy Murray recently criticized his colleagues for their complaints over the lengthy duration of the tennis schedule.

The demanding tennis schedule has been a source of frustration for some players in the past. For example, the top player in the world, Novak Djokovic, voiced his opinion in March 2023 during the Dubai Tennis Championships.

In a recent interview, Murray revealed that he has been attending a lot of exhibiting events since Saudi Arabia’s influence in the tennis world has grown.

Murray said: “I don’t know if I would want restrictions on exhibitions. I just think that sometimes the players are a little bit hypocritical [over] the tennis schedule, and it’s like the tennis schedule is too long, but then players are flying all over the world in the off-season to play exhibitions, and that’s their choice.”

He also emphasized the fact that players are not required to participate in every ATP tour event or every other tournament. In addition, he gave a scenario of how the players might choose to play at Indian Wells in the upcoming month or take part in the Dubai Tennis Championships.

He added: “But it just seems hypocritical because they don’t have to play the exhibitions. And they don’t have to play every tournament on the ATP tour; they can decide not to come here [to Dubai] or they don’t have to play Indian Wells.”
