Following Carlos Alcaraz’s string of tournament losses, which began with his loss to Novak Djokovic in the Cincinnati Masters of 2023, former tennis player David Ferrer has shown his support for his fellow Spaniard.

Alcaraz hasn’t been able to advance to the event finals, much less win one, since his defeat by Djokovic in Cincinnati last year. At the US Open, China Open, and ATP Finals, the Spaniard advanced to the semifinals. Additionally, he progressed to the Round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters before losing in the first round in Paris.

Ferrer, the Davis Cup captain of Spain and a compatriot of Alcaraz, has defended him despite the young player’s recent setbacks. Ferrer compared the young Spaniard to Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, pointing out that even they had lost some matches.

Ferrer said in a press conference: “He is No. 2 in the world, but you cannot demand that a 20-year-old tennis player always win. He is a special player, of the caliber of Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer, or Novak Djokovic. But he still has a lot of time and you can’t ask him to win everything. I don’t remember Rafael and Djokovic winning everything at that age.”

Now ranked no.2, Alcaraz played his last match on the 20^th of February when he had to retire when playing against world no.117 Thiago Moura Monteiro in the 1^st round and the scoreline was 1-1 .

Rafael Nadal in 2024

Now ranked no.652, Rafael played his last match on the 5^th

of January when he capitulated to world no.40 Jordan Thompson 5-7 7-6(6) 6-3 in the quarter in Brisbane (draw).

Currently, during this season Rafael achieved a composed 2-1 win-loss record.

He is also scheduled to play in Indian Wells (BNP Paribas Open) on the 6th of March and Barcelona (Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell) on the 15th of April.

Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal fought against each other 3 times. Their current record is 2-1 for Nadal. Previously, the last time they squared off, Carlos Alcaraz won 6-2 1-6 6-3 in the quarter in Madrid (Mutua Madrid Open) in May 2022.

Now the world no.1, the Serbian played his last match on the 26^th of January when he capitulated to world no.3 Jannik Sinner 6-1 6-2 6-7(6) 6-3 in the semifinal in the Australian Open (draw).

At the moment, during this season Djokovic has a 7-2 record. Novak Djokovic’s latest run at the Australian Open was the best achievement of his season.
