Stefanos Tsitsipas recently acknowledged that he has been finding it difficult to learn Spanish with his girlfriend Paula Badosa speaking Catalan all around him.
As of June 2023, Tsitsipas and Badosa are formally dating. The couple is frequently spotted together, especially when they are supporting one another in various events throughout the world. Tsitsipas is defending his Los Cabos Open title in Mexico. His decisive victory over Aleksander Kovacevic, 7-6(1), 6-3 on Thursday, guaranteed him a spot in the semifinals.
Surprisingly, the Greek player was asked to respond to questions in Spanish when he spoke with the media on the court after the game. He found it difficult to comply with the presenter’s request and explained away his lack of success in learning the language by noting that Badosa speaks Catalan most of the time.
Tsitsipas said funnily: “Paula speaks only Catalan around me, so it’s been difficult. It’s her native language.”
But in the end, after hearing some of his teammates speak Spanish, Tsitsipas assured the Los Cabos audience that he would make an effort to learn the language. He added: “From time to time, you know, certain members of the team; otherwise, it’s mostly Catalan. Guys, I’m trying. I’ll try harder.”
"I'm trying!" 😅
