Jannik Sinner has been praised by two-time major finalist Mark Philippoussis for having the same winning attitude as tennis greats Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
The former world No. 8 praised Sinner as such a nice young man and said that athletes like the Italian, Djokovic, and Nadal are unique because they are always trying to improve. Sinner won his first Grand Slam title last month when he overcame Daniil Medvedev in five sets in the 2024 Australian Open final.
In a podcast, Philippoussis lauded Sinner’s mindset and will to keep getting better while also praising Sinner as a person.
Philippoussis expressed his thoughts about Sinner and said: “You know the best thing; he’s such a good kid. I jumped on it too (the bandwagon). He was my pick, by the way, at the start of the tournament (the Australian Open). He was my pick. He’s a great kid. You see him walking by; he looks at you, says hello, and gives respect to anybody. His team is great, and he’s got a champion’s mentality.”
He further said: “After he wins, in the locker room, he’s going to ask the question, ‘How can I get better?’ That’s the difference between Nadal, Djokovic, and other players. That’s the champion’s mentality. These guys are always looking for ways to get better.”
