Rain has delayed the ATP Delray Beach Open’s all-American final to Monday, where ninth-ranked Taylor Fritz will compete against world number 14 Tommy Paul, according to officials on Sunday.
Current title holder Taylor Fritz is aiming for his seventh ATP championship and aims to be the second player to win back-to-back titles in Delray, following Australian Jason Stoltenberg who won in 1996 and 1997.
Paul achieved his second career ATP championship last week in Dallas and has the potential to be the first American to win tour-level tournaments in back-to-back weeks since John Isner’s victories in Newport and Atlanta in 2017.
Going into the game against his long-time friend, Paul has won seven matches in a row, matching the best streak of his career.
Paul and Fritz have played four ATP matches against one other, with each winning two. Paul emerged victorious in their most recent encounter, which took place in the semi-finals of last year’s Acapulco tournament.
Fritz will attempt to increase his ATP finals winning record to six consecutive victories.
Following his initial victory at Eastbourne in 2019, Fritz experienced defeat in his following four final matches. However, starting with St. Petersburg in 2021, he has secured titles in Indian Wells, Eastbourne, and Tokyo in 2022, as well as Delray Beach and Atlanta in the previous year.
