Morgan Riddle, Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend, reminisces about the unforgettable moment when Fritz clinched victory over Nadal at Indian Wells.
Riddle, who began traveling with Fritz in 2021, shared her sentiments during a Sportish podcast episode. “Probably when Taylor won the Indian Wells (Masters). That was great. That was just… I cried. It was such a big deal,” she recalled.
The 2022 Indian Wells Masters marked a significant milestone for Fritz, who battled through the tournament despite sustaining an ankle injury in the semifinals. Despite coach Paul Annacone’s advice against it, Fritz took to the final against Nadal.
In a thrilling showdown, Fritz emerged victorious with a 6-3, 7-6(5) win, securing his first Masters title and ending Nadal’s unbeaten streak in 2022. Riddle described it as a “dream moment” for both of them.
The triumph was especially poignant as Fritz became the first American to win Indian Wells in years, ending a drought in American Masters winners. The memorable victory was later documented in Netflix’s Break Point docuseries.
