Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner’s recent triumph at the Rotterdam Open has not only solidified his status as a rising star in the sport but also underscored the profound impact of his coach, Simone Vagnozzi. Following Sinner’s hard-fought victory over Alex de Minaur in the final, Vagnozzi expressed his admiration for Sinner’s dedication and progress over the past two years.
“I am lucky to have a special boy [to coach],” Vagnozzi remarked in an interview with Sky Sports. “Today was a very difficult match, De Minaur played at a crazy level. In the last 2 days Jannik has risen in level and deserved to win this tournament.”
Reflecting on their journey together, Vagnozzi highlighted the initial goal they set out to achieve when they began working together two years ago. “The goal when we started 2 years ago was to make him a better player,” he explained. “These are things that can’t be done in 2 months.”
Despite Sinner’s already impressive standing as the world No. 10, Vagnozzi emphasized the importance of striving for completeness in his game. “He wasn’t bad, we were still talking about the No. 10 in the world, but to reach certain levels you have to be complete,” Vagnozzi stated. “His willingness to improve is very important.”
Indeed, Sinner’s commitment to growth and development has been evident throughout his career, with each tournament showcasing his continuous evolution as a player. With Vagnozzi’s guidance and expertise, Sinner has not only honed his skills but also cultivated a mindset focused on relentless improvement.
As Sinner’s journey in professional tennis unfolds, his partnership with Vagnozzi remains a cornerstone of his success. Together, they exemplify the power of determination, hard work, and unwavering dedication in achieving greatness on the court.
