With Jannik Sinner ready to become the first Italian to rank in the top three of the ATP Rankings and the world No. 2 position calling, the records for him are still breaking.

After his victory at the Australian Open, Sinner advanced to the Rotterdam Open final, maintaining his perfect start to the 2024 season. After winning three singles rubbers at the Davis Cup Finals at the end of the 2023 season, he is currently 14 matches undefeated in the highest tier of tennis.

After defeating Tallon Griekspoor 6-2, 6-4 in the Rotterdam Open semi-final, the 22-year-old has advanced to a career-high No. 3 in the rankings; however, that ranking won’t be official until after the Qatar Open or Sunday’s championship match.

The ATP Rankings will be updated on Monday, and Sinner will take Daniil Medvedev’s spot at No. 3 if he wins over Alex de Minaur in the ATP 500 event in the Netherlands.

In the coming weeks, Sinner will also be aiming for the world No. 2 position, as Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev have a lot of ground to make up until after the Sunshine Double in the US.

Sinner only has 960 points left to defend after Rotterdam, having finished runner-up in the Miami Open and advanced to the Indian Wells Open semifinals the previous year. Sinner might have a chance to overtake Alcaraz at the end of the Indian Wells Masters if the Spaniard is unable to successfully defend his title.
