Emma Raducanu made a grand entrance in 2021 when she won the US Open, shocking the tennis world. This small British wonder made it from the initial stages and managed to win her first slam title, while fans were cheering for heavyweights from the start. After the victory, expectations grew, and she gained international recognition. However, she hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations since her victory.
It appears that her victory has been eclipsed by her illness and a series of poor performances. However, it appears that some people still think she can change the situation. Former professional tennis player Petchy spoke about her in an interview.
He came forward and expressed his tremendous belief in Raducanu’s potential success in a recent public disclosure. Though Raducanu had a poor start to certain games, Petchey lauded Raducanu’s amazing agility, saying it’s not talked about enough. He also mentioned that her coaching staff needs to be more reliable.
Petchy was a member of the team for ten months at one point. He reflected on his time spent mentoring Raducanu, pointing out that she never failed to give it her best on the tennis court.
Petchy expressed his remarks about Raducanu and said: “But the one thing I will say about Emma is that in the 10 months that I spent with her, there was not a day or a minute that she didn’t put in. Every single time she hit a tennis ball, she was 100 percent committed to it.”
He further added: “She is moving well. She’s probably one of the best athletes out there on the tour right now. She moves phenomenally well; I don’t think we talk about it enough. If the game is there, then the athleticism backs up. I think there are people out there who have a very wrong perception of what she is like as a person and as a competitor. She is going to give everything to this sport. And ultimately, I believe she will be a multiple grand slam champion.”
Petchy proposed that Raducanu might still be able to feel the connection. He suggested that she is very committed to her game and has the potential to once again be the best in the world while thinking back on his time spent with her.
Emma Raducanu has never beaten a top 10 player. Her highest-ranked win was against Belinda Bencic, who was ranked number 11 at the time, during the US Open. Despite her talent, there's a growing concern among fans and analysts alike.
