Jannik Sinner advanced to the semifinals in Rotterdam on Friday after injury-plagued Milos Raonic was forced to withdraw in the second set of their match at 1-1.

After two more games, the big-hitting 33-year-old Canadian retired, having won the opening set 7-6 (7/4). To advance to Sunday’s final, Sinner will play Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, who upset Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori.

Sinner expressed his remarks about Raonic’s retirement and said: “Obviously, this is not the way you want to win the match. I wish him a speedy recovery. I was playing and I was not realising that he was about to retire but he knows his body well and he knows his limits so, for sure, it’s the right choice for him.”
