Carlos Alcaraz thinks he still has a lot to prove before he can call himself as famous as tennis greats like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, who are recognized for their contributions to the game.
Currently, Alcaraz is competing at the 2024 Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. Following a first-round bye on Thursday, the Spaniard defeated local qualifier Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the second round to secure his spot in the event’s quarterfinals.
After his most recent victory, Alcaraz was asked what he thought about other tennis players considering him a star. The world No. 2 responded to his peers’ statements and said: “I don’t consider myself a star; I consider myself a very good player.”
Even with all the success he has had thus far in his career, he feels he still has a long way to go before he can compete on the same level as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, among others.
He further said: “For me, the stars are Djokovic, Rafa, Federer, and some others out there. I have achieved great things, but I still have a long way to go to be one.”
