Carlos Alcaraz is scheduled to participate in the French Open and Roland Garros men’s tennis competitions this year. The Spaniard said that if he had to pick, he would rather win the gold medal in Paris, even if he would be aiming for both crowns.
Held on the same clay courts in the French capital, the Olympic tournament is scheduled for July, one month after the year’s second Grand Slam.
Alcaraz expressed his thoughts in a recent interview and said: “For me, it’s a dream to bring a medal to my country, and winning gold is one of the greatest things that can happen to you in the world of sport. This year, if you give me a choice, I’d say that I will keep the Olympic gold, although I would like to win both. I’m not going to lie.”
Despite winning the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon the previous year, the 20-year-old was unable to add to his Grand Slam record last month as he lost to Germany’s Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
